04/04/07 Ground consolidation project completed ahead of schedule A £500,000 ground stabilisation programme for a new business park on the outskirts of Edinburgh has been successfully completed by ground engineering specialist Consolidate. The new Shawfair Business Park at Danderhall is being developed by Buccleuch Property Ltd and is ideally located close to the Edinburgh city bypass. However, the site features a number of old mineworkings that require infilling. Working with consulting engineers Faber Maunsell, Consolidate has completed the ground preparation work for the spine road and phase 1 of the project ahead of schedule. The project involved the infilling of a 30m mine shaft and four seams down to 25m. Around 1000 boreholes were drilled in a carefully laid-out 3m grid pattern, which were then pressure injected with a pulverised fuel ash (PVA)/cement grout mixture. “This new business park will provide a major economic boost for Edinburgh and we are delighted to have completed phase 1 of the ground consolidation project ahead of schedule,” said Beaton Sutherland, Consolidate director. |
